Book Review: THE AIR HE BREATHES by Brittainy C. Cherry

Genre: Contemporary Romance
Publication Date: 25 September 2015

I was warned about Tristan Cole.

“Stay away from him,” people said.
“He’s cruel.”
“He’s cold.”
“He’s damaged.”

It’s easy to judge a man because of his past. To look at Tristan and see a monster.

But I couldn’t do that. I had to accept the wreckage that lived inside of him because it also lived inside of me.

We were both empty.
We were both looking for something else. Something more.
We both wanted to put together the shattered pieces of our yesterdays.

Then perhaps we could finally remember how to breathe.

This has to be one of the most beautiful stories I've read this year. Seriously, every word in this book made me feel something that I just couldn't stop reading. I basically finished the book in one day and there wasn't a single moment I didn't love where the story was going or connected deeply with the characters. Everything about this book was just beautifully put together that it really spoke to my heart.

“Maybe the truest form of love grew from the deepest kinds of pain.”

The Air He Breathes is a standalone second chance romance but this love story doesn't start sweet and easy. Here we have two characters that have lost their loved ones tragically leaving them both destroyed and hollow inside. Elizabeth lost her husband and was left only with her five-year old daughter and Tristan lost his complete family, wife and son. Knowing that I hope you can sense this is a delicate story where love doesn't come easy for these characters but when it comes, let me tell you, the healing is breathtaking. Really, the way love blooms from pain in this story is truly poignant and indeed breathtaking.

“You know that place in between nightmares and dreams? The place where tomorrows never come and yesterdays don’t hurt anymore? The place where your heart beats in sync with mine? The place where time doesn’t exist, and it’s easy to breathe? I want to live there with you.”

I loved how these characters first meet and how their beginning is kind of bumpy and unexpected as neither of them is looking for love. Actually, they were trying to forget about feelings so they wouldn't hurt so much anymore but as they start to connect, they soon realize they can help each other remember to breath again and that's how their romance begins. From intense sorrow to healing and then to a beautiful kind of love, this story was absolutely stunning to me.

“You’re a beautiful, broken kind of monster.”

“You’re a beautiful, broken kind of woman.”

This book is without a doubt one of my favorites this year and for that I highly recommend it. It's a story that will give you all FEELS from heartbreak to utter excitement but also keep you in suspense all the way to the end with some amazing twists. Give it a try, I'm positive you're going to fall in love with these two broken yet incredible characters! ♥

“No soulmate leaves the world alone; they always take a piece of their other half along with them.”
