Book Review: RUIN & RULE by Pepper Winters

Genre: Dark Romance
Publication Date: 7 July 2015

"We met in a nightmare. The in-between world where time had no power over reason. We fell in love. We fell hard. But then we woke up. And it was over . . ."

She is a woman divided. Her past, present, and future are as twisted as the lies she's lived for the past eight years. Desperate to get the truth, she must turn to the one man who may also be her greatest enemy . . .

He is the president of Pure Corruption MC. A heartless biker and retribution-deliverer. He accepts no rules, obeys no one, and lives only to reap revenge on those who wronged him. And now he has stolen her, body and soul.

Can a woman plagued by mystery fall in love with the man who refuses to face the truth? And can a man drenched in darkness forgo his quest for vengeance-and finally find redemption?

This book was an amazing ride, it blew me away! It had all the things I love about this author's stories: an incredible antihero, a strong heroine, unexpected twists, heart-stopping anticipation, breathtaking passion, and emotions that really got under my skin. And it was all of those components that remind me once again why I'm obsessed with this author's books. :D Yet as much as there are things I expect from her stories, Ms. Winters always manages to surprise me and with Ruin & Rule she just did it again. Here she creates a story that perhaps falls under a less dark category than her other books but by doing that she infused the story with endless intensity when it came to the driven forces of love and revenge in the plot and I was completely taken by all that addictive intensity.

We met in a nightmare. The in-between world where time had no power over reason. We fell in love. We fell hard. But then we woke up. And it was over...

In this story we have an antihero. A man that's implacable, powerful, dominant, and obsessed with vengeance and I totally loved him. Oh yes, I loved Arthur "Kill" Killian because under that facade of ruthlessness there was a deeply broken man with a terrible past. The only thing he cares about now is to take revenge on those that did him wrong so that he maybe can put his demons to rest once and for all. But in planning retribution as the president of the powerful club Pure Corruption MC, Kill never expected a ghost from his past to appear in the form of a beautiful and nameless woman who doesn't have any recollection of her past or present. A woman that confuses him from the very moment she enters his life.

“You remind me of her. Every time I look at you, I see her. You stab me in the fucking heart every time you look at me with her eyes. My gut twists every time the sun catches her red hair. But it’s a lie. You aren’t her. You could never be her.”

Can you imagine? The heroine in this story doesn't remember anything, she has amnesia, how thrilling is that?! It was like a guessing game with her as she starts to put the pieces of her past together and with every new information I got so excited. Really, the way this author brings and connects the past with the present is hypnotizing that I couldn't get enough. To see how the heroine was connected to Kill and how the two of them kept battling between passion, hate, and something more had my heart in knots and in such excitement from start to finished. I just couldn't wait to find out more of how their lives were really intertwined but as slowly as that happened, I was also so content with all the sexual tension, danger, and twists these characters go through for most half of the book. Omg, I just loved it all!

“Fuck. I’d kissed her to see. To drink her lies and taste the truth. I’d kissed her hoping to put an end to the blistering pain inside my heart. To admit to myself that whatever drew me to her was false. It didn’t work. Her mouth intoxicated me.”

This book is part of a duet series so expect this first installment to end on a cliffhanger but an incredible cliffhanger that is. That ending definitely made me desperate and super excited for the next book so I can continue this thrilling story. I can already feel it's going to be a mind-blowing sequel because this first book was a total dream of a story for me. I cannot recommend Ruin & Rule enough to those that enjoy intense, dark, and gritty stories about powerful loves. I tell you, you're going to love it too! ♥

“I’d been ruined, but now I would rule.”
