Book Review: RIPPED by Katy Evans

Genre: Erotica, Contemporary Romance
Publication Date: 9 December 2014

SYNOPSIS

A ripped rock star with attitude.
An ex-girlfriend with a reckless plan.

Pandora assumed getting her heart broken by her bad boy ex could only happen once--until Mackenna Jones comes back to town for the biggest concert of his career. They say girls are getting pregnant just thinking about the Crack Bikini tour and it's destined to be a huge hit.

Oh, it'll be a hit alright--when Pandora comes out swinging. She and her friend Melanie are determined to humiliate him onstage. But when they're caught by security and her ex is summoned, Mackenna decides not to press charges if she'll join him on tour and follow certain conditions--rules designed to give him the upper hand and keep her in close contact with him once again. Soon, the passion they once shared is reignited, and no matter how much Pandora wants to hate him, her hard exterior starts to crack.

And worse: Mackenna knows it, too. But he hasn't uncovered all her secrets...

REVIEW

4.5 FEISTY SECOND CHANCE STARS!

I'm a huge fan of the Real series and it has been awesome to follow it through and see these characters all get their own stories. Now is the turn of Pandora, Brooke and Melanie's gothic best friend, and her story once again has that addictive intensity I love so much from this author but with a new dose of spunk I really enjoyed making this a quite fun read for me.

Ripped is a second chance romance with a feisty heroine that has no problem with speaking her mind or coming across as cynic when she wants to make a point. That's just the way Pandora Stone is and her two best friends have long ago accepted her and loved her that way. But there was a time when Pandora was not as cynical about life, a time when she believed in love because she felt it and lived it amazingly at seventeen with her first and only love, Mackenna Jones.

“Our love was like a raging storm and a harbor: unruly and unstoppable, wild and endless, but steady and safe . . .”

Regrettably, that young and intense love was torn apart way too soon leaving a heartbroken Pandora full of resentment. Not even six years have made her forget that time in her life that changed her so much and made her the cold woman she is now. But how could she forget him and what he did when he's everywhere as the singer of Crack Bikini, one of the most successful rock bands today. Yes, Mackenna made it big, he's now a rock god and every woman's hot dream but to Pandora he's still the man she can't forget or forgive for breaking her heart. Therefore, when his band comes to town for the biggest concert of his career, she doesn't hesitate on taking that opportunity to ruin that big moment for him and get some needed retribution. What Pandora doesn't bargain for is that seeing Mackenna again will bring back the many memories and feelings she thought had died long time ago.

“I was so sure I’d gotten rid of my heart, but he makes me so aware that it’s still here, inside me somewhere. It’s alive when he’s near, and it screams, “Danger . . .”

From the blurb you already know that Pandora gets herself in quite a situation after trying to sabotage Mackenna's concert. So in order to stay out of jail she agrees to join the band for the remainder of the tour for professional reasons that should benefit the band but of course there's more to it than just that. When these characters are together in the same room I could really feel the tension and all the unsaid words they wanted to say to each other but didn't dare to. It was so funny to see them constantly fighting, flirting, and mocking each other and playing the game of "who can care less" but failing miserably almost every time. Pandora in particular tries her hardest to stay unaffected by Mackenna but there are times where she just can't resist her feelings and his gorgeousness and that's how their love affair reignites.

“I want to hit him while I kiss him, curse him while I kiss him, push him the hell away from me while I kiss him.
I want to . . .
I just WANT.”

I loved the hate/love relationship between these characters; it was fiery, delicious, and always so intense since there were so many hidden emotions behind it. Emotions that I later found to be very heartfelt when I learned some truths in the story and I got to understand the characters a lot better. By that point I was totally rooting for this couple and their happily ever after because they so very much deserved it. The times they took me to memory lane when they were both young and in love it was beautiful and touching that it made me fall that much more for their unique connection. . .

What are you promising me?
Me.”

This was another awesome addition to the Real series. I loved Ripped for all its fieriness and intensity but mostly I think I loved it for being a story about a healing love, forgiveness, and a beautiful feisty second chance at happiness that it was more than deserved. I really look forward to reading more about this amazing couple in future books in the series. ♥
