Book Review: NOCTE by Courtney Cole - Giveaway

Genre: New Adult, Dark Romance
Publication Date: November 3, 2014

My name is Calla Price. I’m eighteen years old, and I’m one half of a whole.
My other half-- my twin brother, my Finn-- is crazy.

I love him. More than life, more than anything. And even though I’m terrified he’ll suck me down with him, no one can save him but me.

I’m doing all I can to stay afloat in a sea of insanity, but I’m drowning more and more each day. So I reach out for a lifeline.

Dare DuBray.

He’s my savior and my anti-Christ. His arms are where I feel safe, where I’m afraid, where I belong, where I’m lost. He will heal me, break me, love me and hate me.

He has the power to destroy me.

Maybe that’s ok. Because I can’t seem to save Finn and love Dare without everyone getting hurt.

Why? Because of a secret.

A secret I’m so busy trying to figure out, that I never see it coming.

You won’t either.

This story was different, a very good kind of different. In here you won't find a typical romance as this story is dark and filled with secrets, grief, mystery, and subtle yet chilling anticipation. The plot is cryptic and masterfully put together so it will keep you guessing nonstop but know that by the end you won't see the truth coming and I hope that it stuns you as much as it did to me. And to help with that, I'm keeping this review with minimal descriptions so you can experience this awesome story to the fullest.

This is the story of Calla Price, an eighteen-year-old girl whose life has always been surrounded by darkness but now more than ever. After a tragic accident, she's trying her best to cope with her own grief but even at such difficult times there's someone else she needs to think of first, her mentally unstable twin brother Finn. This story touches deeply on their twin connection, a connection that is as mesmerizing as it is frightening and it drives most of the twists and turns of this obscure plot.

"Save me and I will save you."

I've read books before where family ties are important to the story but never as significant as they were portrayed in Nocte. Calla and Finn are the kind of twins that love each other more than life; they're connected in such a way that they understand and depend on one another like no one else. So while Finn struggles with staying as sane as he can possibly be within their circumstances, Calla tries her hardest to be his rock and his constant reminder of reality. However, there are secrets between them that start to pull them apart and only bring fear into their lives.

That's my voice. Finally. Breaking through the crazy, through the voices, through the words. I've got to do what is right. What is right.

In the midst of the craziness and anguish that's when Dare DuBray comes into Calla's life. This young man with his eyes as black as night is the only thing that brings her hope and light. Calla doesn't understand how he does it but he distracts her from the pain and fear in her heart. The problem is that even Dare has his own secrets to keep and Calla doesn't know if being with him means betraying Finn when he needs her the most. So Calla is torn between staying in the darkness for Finn's sake or coming into the light but having to confront the impending consequences. . .

"He brings with him an air of comfort, of excitement, of something charged and dangerous and new. I don’t want to let that go just yet."

Nocte was an intriguing and fascinating story, I thought. I loved how it was wrapped around that particular dark mystery which not only made me feel anticipation all the time but it actually made me feel constantly fearful for the characters. It was just an impressive psychological thriller that left me beyond stunned and absorbed when the story came full circle. I can definitely say this is a story I can't wait to continue reading in the next book so I can find out more about these mystifying characters and their fate.

About the Author:
Courtney Cole is a novelist who would eat mythology for breakfast if she could. She has a degree in Business, but has since discovered that corporate America is not nearly as fun to live in as fictional worlds. 2. I'm not a huge suspense fan, usually, but I could not resist a Courtney Cole book!
