Book Review: LICK by Kylie Scott

Genre: Contemporary Romance/Humor
Publication Date: November 11, 2013

Waking up in Vegas was never meant to be like this.

Evelyn Thomas's plans for celebrating her twenty-first birthday in Las Vegas were big. Huge. But she sure never meant to wake up on the bathroom floor with a hangover to rival the black plague, a very attractive half-naked tattooed man in her room, and a diamond on her finger large enough to scare King Kong.

Now if she could just remember how it all happened.

One thing is certain, being married to one of the hottest rock stars on the planet is sure to be a wild ride.

This book made me so happy, I LOOVED it!! The exceptional humor, the fiery passion, and the laid-back yet remarkable characters in this story made it a true joy and pleasure to read. I definitely found myself a new favorite series here because I really enjoyed the fun and easygoing writing style this story delivered and I can't wait for more.

Lick is the story of a night turning wild and the merging of two interesting but very different individuals who otherwise would have never met if it wasn't for that special night. . .

After celebrating her twenty-first birthday in Vegas, Evelyn Thomas wakes up with the worst hungover, not remembering anything, and finding out she got herself married the night before and her new mouthwatering-tattooed husband is right there when she wakes up. These news are enough reason to freak her out because a girl like her who's organized, controlled, and has a life plan all figured out could not behave so recklessly even with someone as attractive and intriguing as her new husband.

"Twenty-one-years-olds with grand life plans didn't marry complete strangers in Vegas, no matter how beautiful those strangers happened to be."

Yet, things get even more complicated for Evelyn when she finds out she didn't just marry any guy, she married no other than David Ferris, the guitarist of the very famous band Stage Dive.

From the story line above you can already tell this story is wild. So wild that from the very beginning I was addicted to it and laughing nonstop. Evelyn's thoughts and reactions toward her unbelievable situation were just priceless. She cracked me up so much with her naiveness, curiosity, and eloquence with David and with the people in his life. A life that she felt was too full of craziness for her own comfort and sanity so the idea of staying with her new husband couldn't be an option for her even though he was stirring some strong feelings.

“I couldn’t afford to have any feelings for him at all. Not if I wanted to get out of this in one piece.”

David on the other hand was beyond swoony. This man's sexiness and fun and irresistible personality are what drove this whole story and made it so striking to me. From the beginning I could see how into Evelyn he was and that was so captivating. However, the fact that she had forgotten their night in Vegas and all the details behind it turned David resentful because there were reasons why they gotten married and it didn't feel right that he was the only that remembered them.

“It’s not fair that you remember and I don’t.”
“No,” he said, his voice hard, cold, in a way I hadn’t heard it. He loomed over me, jaw set. “It’s not fair that I remember and you don’t, Evelyn.”

The story from here on is about Evelyn getting to know David but not the rock star, the real him. What she finds out slowly evokes new feelings she has never experienced with anyone before. That then adds on to the current tension between them making it impossible for them to keep ignoring the intense attraction and desire for each other. So they decide to give their marriage a chance and that's when David changes his attitude completely. He protects her, cares for her, pleases her, and loses himself with her in the same when she does with him. That's when things start to get cozy, passionate, and beautiful between them. ♥

Stage two in the memory rehab, spooning. Now go to sleep."
"I only woke up an hour ago."
"Bad luck. I’m tired and I wanna spoon. With you. And the way I figure it, you owe me. So we’re spooning.”

“Can you feel what we’re doing here? We’re building something.”

Lick was an amazing book and what made it so special to me was its unique sexy-humor. While reading this story there wasn't a single moment I wasn't excited, laughing, smiling, or swooning over David and his sexy and funny ways and I loved it all. Moreover, I loved the connection between Evelyn and David which was always a combination of hot, sweet, innocent, and fun. My heart just went crazy for these two from beginning to end and I found the way their story unfolded was perfect: not too much drama but lots and lots of funny, fiery, and beautiful moments. This book was simply outstanding and for that it's definitely a must read from me! :)

P.S.: I have to confess that aside from falling hard for the amazing hero in this story, I also fell for someone else. His name is Mal and he's the drummer in the band and he was absolutely hilarious! Every time he made an appearance he made me laugh so hard that I can still recall those moments. I absolutely adored him! Luckily for me the next book in the series is about him so I'm beyond excited to read it. I know it's going to be gold just like Lick! :D

“You scare me shitless. I don’t know what I’m doing here. But I hate the thought of leaving you.”
