Book Review: BY WAY OF ACCIDENT by Laura Miller - Giveaway

Genre: New Adult
Publication Date: October 21, 2014

SYNOPSIS

They say in every guy’s life there’s a girl he’ll never forget and a summer where it all began. Well, for me, 1999 is that summer, and Brooke Sommerfield is that girl. But that was nearly nine years ago. And what they don’t tell ya is that you’ll blink, and both the summer and the girl will be gone.

I have no idea where Brooke ended up. She disappeared that same summer I met her. And kind of like when you move something on a wall after it’s been there for a long time and everything around it is faded, that’s how I feel about Brooke. She wasn’t there very long, but when she left, everything around her memory sort of dimmed. That is until a letter postmarked the year she left mysteriously resurfaces. And call me crazy—everyone else has—but I have to find her. I have to know what became of the green-and-gray-eyed girl who stole my last perfect summer. I have to know if she believes in second chances—because I do—even if they do come with good-byes.

REVIEW

5+ BREATHTAKING FATE STARS!

Here's a book that completely took my breath away. By Way of Accident touched me like not many other books have before. Its unique story it's absolutely beautiful and the way is told transported me to magical sceneries, to places filled with so much meaning, and to moments that conveyed love in ways that I haven't experienced before. This book was just a mesmerizing experience!

"Life passes you by when your eyes are closed."

By Way of Accident is the story of River Asher, a thirteen year old farm boy from Missouri. Since this is his story this book is completely told in his POV and let me tell you, the way he talks is the sweetest thing ever! I loved his innocence, curiosity, and beautiful and hopeful heart. Those characteristics are exactly what drive this story and makes it so alive and stimulating.

The story starts on a summer of 1999 when River is thirteen and meets a girl. Not any girl, the girl and her name is Brooke Sommerfield. Their meeting isn't planned, it just happens on this gorgeous creek and the moment River lays eyes on Brooke he's totally lost. At such a young age, he doesn't know what's happening or what he's feeling but what he knows is that those emotions make him happy and all he wants is to be close to Brooke so that's what he resolves in doing.

"This girl's wild--in a larger than life kind of way--but I think I love her. I don't think I've ever thought that about anyone before--the wild or the love part. It feels kind of heavy, but it also makes my heart kind of dance a little."

River and Brooke spend that summer discovering their feelings and experiencing love for the first time. They also build a connection that ties them together so strongly without them even knowing. And oh, my God... How I loved when these two were together. I felt butterflies in my stomach for all the innocent and pure excitement they made me feel. With the way River told things and the emotions that transpired between them, I was literally transported back to the beautiful and magical way it feels to be young and in love.♥

"I never seemed to get enough time with her. Maybe it was because she taught me how to live. Maybe it was because she taught me how to love. Or maybe it was just simply because I loved her."

Unfortunately, love at their age does not have the necessary powers to protect them from circumstances out of their control. So when Brooke has to move away they're forced into a separation both of them are not ready for but can't prevent either no matter how wrong it feels. River is left heartbroken but somehow hopeful at the same time because upon Brooke leaving they decide that not even the distance is going to break them apart. Well, that's until life starts happening to them and nine years pass them by and what started as a fighting love then it turns into doubts, disappointments, and what ifs. . .

"Maybe everything really does just have an expiration date--one that you can't see until she tells you she's leaving, and then she's gone."

River was incredible and did I say sweet? Yes, he was the sweetest and one of the most heart-melting characters I have ever got a chance to read about. This boy and then later on this young man completely stole my heart from page one and took hold of it until the very last page. He was captivating, charming, and had such a genuine personality that all I wanted in my heart was for him to be happy because no one deserved that more than him. Thankfully, as sweet as he was, River was also relentless so he never gave up on Brooke because his heart wouldn't let him forget that summer of 1999 making his journey that much more emotional and his fate absolutely breathtaking.

"I should have know that the kind of feeling I once had for this girl is the kind of feeling that lasts longer than one short summer."

I adored this book from cover to cover and I could not recommend it enough! Laura Miller totally outdid herself with this story; her writing was flawless, stunning, uplifting, and so compelling. And not to mention the fact that she made this boy and all of his emotions feel so real and heartfelt like you wouldn't believe. So no more words from other than a total must read!!

"The single most important thing in this world is love."
