Book Review: THE WILL by Kristen Ashley

Genre: Contemporary Romance
Publication Date: April 8, 2014

SYNOPSIS

Early in her life, Josephine Malone learned the hard way that there was only one person she could love and trust: her grandmother, Lydia Malone. Out of necessity, unconsciously and very successfully, Josephine donned a disguise to keep all others at bay. She led a globetrotting lifestyle on the fringes of the fashion and music elite, but she kept herself distant.

While Josephine was trotting the globe, retired boxer Jake Spear was living in the same small town as Lydia. There was nothing disguised about Jake. Including the fact he made a habit of making very bad decisions about who to give his love.

But for Josephine and Jake, there was one person who adored them. One person who knew how to lead them to happiness. And one person who was intent on doing it.

Even if she had to do it as her final wish on this earth.

REVIEW

5+ HEARTFELT BEAUTY STARS!

I'm a huge fan of Kristen Ashley! To me her books are always so memorable, profound, beautiful, and just complete masterpieces all around. Well, The Will was indeed another KA masterpiece to me because it was simply unforgettable. This book not only made me fall in love with the passionate-love in the story but also it made me feel the individual beauty of a mother's love, father's love, strong friendships, and the ultimate genuine and selfish family-love.

I loved Josie (Josephine) Malone, the heroine of this story. She is a sweet, goodhearted, and one-of-a-kind woman. She had a very tough upbringing that in turn brought her so close together with her grandmother Lydia. She was the only person in Josie's life that was always there for her to love her and care for her every time. So naturally when Josie phases the lose of her beloved grandmother her world collapses and she's left feeling lost. But Lydia had plans for her granddaughter in her will, plans that serve a purpose: give Josie what she has been missing all her life.

“She gave me you.”

Jake Spear is the hero of this story and without a doubt he's one of the sweetest alpha heroes KA has ever created. The way that he falls into Josie's life and the reasons behind it are truly beautiful and touching. This man becomes Josie's protector, dream maker, and her everything because he knows what she's been dreaming about all along. Josie on the other hand becomes the woman Jake never thought could exist for him but now that she does he's determine to keep her and finally bring to conclusion the inevitable.

“I’m afraid,” I admitted softly. His arms pulled me closer and I felt his lips on my hair when he answered, “Beat that back, honey. No reason to be scared. Not with me.”
Something I love about KA's books is that they tend to be long novels and The Will was a very long amazing one. With a book this long I really got to visualize everything from the characters' surroundings (which were stunning views!) to their deep emotions and realizations. Moreover, every character in the story was so well developed that I got to know them all by heart too as I did with Josie and Jake. It was really like falling in love with a big family and all their beautiful and crazy dynamics.

“If you love someone, you want to know everything. You want to heal all hurts. You want to be there for them when they need you. You just want to be with them all the time.”

As emotional this story was it was also a story filled with so much humor! Josie and Jake were hilarious together and apart. Their uniqueness and differences were remarkable and made such an impact to the humor of the story that both cracked me up countless times. The other characters were incredibly funny and sweet as well which made everything so much more amusing and delightful.

Kristen Ashley can't do no wrong with her stories and this was yet another proof of that. I loved The Will! This book was a truly gratifying read that I totally recommend. Stories as sweet and uplifting as this one need to be read just to remind us why we read and why we love it so much.

“It’s never too late to reach for happiness and no matter what life has done to you, it’s never too late to find it.”
