Book Review: PROMISED by Jodi Ellen Malpas

Genre: Contemporary Romance
Publication Date: August 5, 2014

Livy notices him the moment he walks into the coffee shop. He's heart-stoppingly stunning, with a blue-eyed gaze so piercing she's almost too distracted to take his order. When he walks out the door, she thinks she'll never see him again. Then she finds the note he left on his napkin . . . signed M.

All he wants is one night to worship her. No feelings, no commitment, nothing but pleasure. Every defense mechanism Livy has adopted during her solitary life is at risk of being obliterated by this confounding man. He's obnoxious but well-mannered. He's a gentleman but aloof. He's passionate but emotionless. Yet the fascination is so powerful, Livy can't deny him... or herself.

M awakens something in Livy, something deep and addictive that she never knew existed -- and that she fears only he can satisfy. But she senses that behind the fast cars, fancy suits, and posh apartment, he's aching inside. To have him, body and soul, she'll have to brave his dark secrets. Delving into his world and breaking down his defenses become her obsession - an obsession that could shatter her heart beyond repair..

This book was exquisite, sensual, mysterious, suspenseful, and hilarious. Promised has to be one of the BEST books I've read so far this year and it is now one of my absolute favorites. It was AMAZING!! :D

I discovered Jodi's writing when I read her first trilogy, This Man. With the first book I fell right away in love with the way she writes, she's just so talented at giving the right/perfect amount of details for the story and for the characters. When I finished reading that story I totally felt like I knew the characters by heart which made everything feel more real and unforgettable. That's the beauty of Jodi's writing, it's always so vividly, heart-melting, and captivating but now with this new trilogy it gotten even better! It is so much my love for the This Man Trilogy that Jesse Ward (the lead character) easily became one of my ultimate top three book boyfriends and so far no other male character has been able to get on that fourth pedestal... until now.

One day out of her ordinary life, Livy meets the most perfect, drop-dead-gorgeous, enigmatic, cocky, and intense man she's ever seen. There's something he transmits to her that with just one look he grabs all her senses with such allure and force. She's lost the moment they meet eyes, she's in trance the moment he speaks, and she's in serious trouble the moment he proposes just one night. But who could possibly resist a man like that?! A man that ignites her insides with just a touch. A man that intrigues her to no end. A man that makes her feel alive for the first time in her whole life. And that irresistible man is M.

"You may have noticed that I'm quite fascinated by you as well."
"As well?" I ask, confused.
"It's rather obvious you're fascinated by me."

The journey these two go into is so exquisitely sensual. The seduction, tension, and anticipation were all mind-blowingly H.O.T. and I loved every single part of it. I felt such connection to their connection to each other and to the meanings of words, emotions, and actions that transpired. Livy and M just created a complete new passionate world I didn't think it even existed. It was out this world!

Yes, the hotness in this book is one big part of the story but there's so so much to it. . .

"Savored, Livy. Never rushed."

Within the persuasion and seduction there was a lot of incredible humor in this story too. At times Livy would be lusting over M but then things would quickly change in her mind that made her want run away from him instead. So there was this constant pursuit and "love/hate" relationship between them that brought so much laughter out of me. Moreover, the other characters in the story were outstanding! Nan cracked me up so many times and George and Gregory were just hilarious.

Jodi loves to put a great deal of mystery to her stories and this one wasn't the exception. Livy drags a painful past that she constantly tries to forget. M on the other hand was, well, a complete mystery to Livy and myself. Throughout the book he slowly gives a little bit of himself to Livy and that's how I started to discover him little by little and understanding that underneath all that precise and impeccable persona there's a sweet and charming man in need of comfort. A comfort he could only find in Livy. But there are secrets that potentially could threaten everything. . .

"Who are you?"
"I'm a man who's found a beautiful, sweet girl who gives me more pleasure than I ever thought possible."

I ADORED this book from cover to cover. I adored the plot and both Livy and M. There wasn't a moment where I felt disconnected with Livy, the way she thought, felt, and reacted were exactly the way I would have processed things too. I loved her sweetness and innocence almost as much as M did. I loved her tough side too, she wasn't nobody's pushover and was able to defend herself most of the time. Now M... I LOVED everything about him!! His seriousness, passion, arrogance, tenderness, intensity, and even his secrecy were mesmerizing. And with just this first book he might be the perfect candidate to join Jesse and other two at my top pedestal of book boyfriends. :P That's why I can't wait for book two! I was definitely left wanting so so so much more from this incredible story and characters. I can't wait to know what's going to happen to them next in Denied!

Yes, you guessed it, an absolute must read from me! Oh, and can Nov 11 get here any faster, please?!!
