She is no longer free.

Jethro Hawk receives Nila as an inheritance present on his twenty-ninth birthday. Her life is his until she’s paid off a debt that’s centuries old. He can do what he likes with her—nothing is out of bounds—she has to obey.

There are no rules. Only payments.

REVIEW

4.5 EXHILARATING TERROR STARS!

Wow, just wow!! Talk about a story that's both terrifying and incredibly fascinating! That was Debt Inheritance exactly. Pepper Winters is really a master of dark stories, she just knows how to twist my guts, disrupt my emotions out of control, and yet make me beg for more. I really think this might be her darkest story yet because to me this was a complete mindf***.
"We might live in a civilized world, but rules and laws didn't apply to me. I was a rule-breaker, curse-maker, life-stealer."
This is the story about a debt. A debt that goes back centuries ago between two families, the Weavers and the Hawks. This debt has been claimed and repaid over the years and by every generation within those families. The time to pay that debt has come again and this time the debtor is Nila Weaver and the debtee is Jethro Hawk. So these characters are forced together by powers beyond their control. Jethro has a job to be done, rules to follow, and an unforgiving debt to collect. Nila on the other hand, well she needs to try to survive. . .
"Find an anchor. Hold on tight. Do this and you'll be alright."
There a lot of evil in this story since it's dark but even within the evilness there was also beauty and good. For starters, Nila has a beautiful personality: naive, curious, strong, hopeful, and very brave. This is a girl trapped by her circumstances and yet she uses those same circumstances to get out of her shell and become stronger. I so admired her bravery that my heart ached right along with hers every time. But as Nila is trying to prepare herself for what is to come she's also becoming more curious as new feelings start to awake in her. These are feelings of desire that should have no place inside her because they're reflected on the wrong person, her merciless debtee.
"I shivered. Hating him. Lusting for him. Hating myself. Loving the forbidden rush."
Now Jethro Hawk is a complex character. This is the "hero" of the story; however, he was more of a villain than anything else and yet that's exactly what makes him so intriguing. Jethro is also trapped in this story but not by circumstances; he's trapped by expectations, rules, power, and by the only way of life he has ever known. Even through his coldness and merciless ways I was still able to sense some good in him. His walls are not unbreakable I could tell, and Nila was definitely going to be his breaking point.
"Nila Weaver. Mine. And my task... ... ... devour her."
I really liked this book because it totally played with my emotions. It made me scream out of fear, rage, and helplessness. And even throughout all those gut-wrenching emotions I could not stop reading. I was just hooked by the thrill and anticipation that I devoured this book very quickly. I have to say I'm impatient for the next book because I was left hanging and wanting more. More of what I not totally got from this book, the romance. Yes, this book was not quite a romance story yet to me. It was high though on erotism, thrill, suspense, and danger which I really loved. I think the next book will have more romance as the story and the characters develop more and for that I can't freaking wait! :)
"I'd been afraid of love. Afraid of the pain it could cause and how easily something so pure could turn into something so filthy."

Favorite Quotes:

"Nila Weaver. Mine. And my task... ... ... devour her."

"Who was this man? Why did his very existence fill me with hot and cold and awareness and fear?"

"This man pure danger, and I'd never sampled anything but safety."

"I'd been afraid of love. Afraid of the pain it could cause and how easily something so pure could turn into something so filthy."

"There was a debt to be paid. And I was the method of extraction. Plain and simple. I'm a Hawk. She's a Weaver."

"I would enjoy ruining Nila, because I liked breaking things. But not in a gruesome barbaric way. I liked to break them smoothly, gently, ruthlessly."

"Find an anchor. Hold on tight. Do this and you'll be alright."

"I shivered. Hating him. Lusting for him. Hating myself. Loving the forbidden rush."
