K.A. (Kyla) Linde
Author of the Avoiding series
Today's is author K.A. Linde's turn to be in the spotlight! At the DC Author Event I had the chance to meet this talented author for the second time and ask her my three questions. Her answers were very interesting so here they are:
#1 - As readers we get very attached to characters so it’s sad when we finish their stories. Now, I can imagine that for a writer it is even harder to finish writing a story knowing that’s the end for the characters. How do you transition from finishing a novel/series to starting a new one?
I have read Avoiding Commitment, Kyla's first book in the Avoiding series, and let me tell you, it was angsty and so good! Her stories are charged with intense emotions/conflict that totally gets transmitted to the readers. So when she told me that it's really hard for her to let go of her characters when she's done with their stories, I wasn't surprised. Really, if she can make readers feel so much with her writing I can only imagine how she feels for her characters as she writes them. So to answer the question, she said she mourns and cries for her characters when their stories are done. During that time she would take some days off from writing to learn to let go before starting something new. But when new ideas start coming and she's at peace with her last story, she's more than excited to start writing again.
#2 - One popular component in romance books is sex scenes so I wonder… When writing, how do you decide how much sex to put in your stories? Or do you mostly follow your genre (YA, NA, Erotic Romance, Erotica, etc.)?
I was happy to hear Kyla say that she has no problem with writing the sexy scenes in her stories because she writes them so well and reader love them (me!). She writes them based on the characters so they're the ones that guide her to decide if such scenes are necessary or not. When they are, she thinks hot scenes make her stories sexier.
#3 - Do you consider yourself a romance genre writer or a writer who uses love stories to explore a wide range of themes?
Kyla first said that she considers herself a romance writer but when thinking about it more, she feels her stories also explore other themes. Like her Off the Record novel which focuses on themes of power and ambition but always revolving around a romantic relationship.

More About K.A. Linde:
After graduating from the University of Georgia with a masters degree in political science, she began spending every waking hour putting those characters onto paper. When not writing, she spends her time dancing, collecting paperbacks in the hopes of filling a Beauty and the Beast style library one day, traveling, bargain shopping, playing with her puppies, and still reading anything she can get her hands on.
She currently resides in Georgia with her boyfriend and two puppies, Lucy and Riker, where she is hard at work on her next novel.
