Book Review: TWISTED by Emma Chase

Genre: New Adult Contemporary
Publication Date: March 25, 2014

There are two kinds of people in the world. The ones who look first, and the ones who leap. I’ve always been more of a looker. Cautious. A planner. That changed after I met Drew Evans. He was so persistent. So sure of himself – and of me.

But not all love stories end happily ever after. Did you think Drew and I were going to ride off into the sunset? Join the club. Now I have to make a choice, the most important of my life. Drew already made his –in fact, he tried to decide for the both of us. But you know that’s just not my style. So I came back to Greenville. Alone. Well, sort of alone....

What I've come to realize is that old habits die hard and sometimes you have to go back to where you began, before you can move ahead.

TWISTED picks up two years after Tangled’s end, and is told from Kate’s POV.

Twisted was humorous, refreshing, colorful, and a little bit angsty... An Emma Chase book angsty? I know, I was surprised too but the combination worked so well! :D

How I missed Emma's writing. Her style of writing is so unique that with every book I always feel like I'm actually establishing a relationship/conversation with the character telling the story and I love that! This time I got myself acquainted with Kate as this book was written with her POV. This is the first time we get an insight into her head and the way she thinks and let me tell you, I really love her now!

Kate's a very strong, fierce, determined and independent career woman but above it all she is a woman very much in love. Therefore, when big misunderstandings come between her and Drew her world falls apart and she's left not knowing what to do. That's when the story gets angsty and Kate has to go through some very emotional situations in order to figure out things. But this is also a book about Drew Evans and if you already read Tangled you know that means this story will always be hilarious. ;)

Kate had her own kind of humor and it was amazing. She talked, advised, feared, cried, laughed, and made cool remarks like all we girls do but funnier. I think after two years together, Drew's way of expressing himself rubbed a little bit on Kate because she was more than successful in making me laugh nonstop but in her own unique way. I totally loved her!

Now the journey from misunderstandings to a reconciliation was a bumpy one for Kate and Drew. Both of them made big mistakes so their love had to be strong enough to forgive, learn, and forget. I love Drew but this time I was totally team Kate. I just completely understood where she was coming from, agreed with her decisions, and loved that she was so in love with her imperfect ex-bachelor no matter his flaws. She was so perfect for him and him for her.♥

I loved seeing the whole gang again here in Twisted. Kate and Drew's parents and friends were amazing and hilarious characters. They made the story so much more entertaining and unforgettable. I also loved the epilogue in this book! It was funny, sweet, beautiful, and the prefect way to end Kate and Drew's story for now until I get my hands on Tamed and Tied.

If you already read Tangled I totally recommend reading Twisted! This story will crack you up and fill your heart with joy. And if you haven't read Tangled...Well, what are you waiting for?! ;)

Favorite Quotes:

“Who knew poking a lion with a stick could be so much fun?”

“He smirks in that way that makes me want to kiss him and slap him at the same time.”

“Kissing is an art form, and Drew Evans is Michelangelo.”

“Imagine a car’s going sixty miles an hour down a country road and a tree falls and the car hits it. Boom—instant stoppage. But if the person in the driver’s seat isn’t wearing a seat belt? They’re still going sixty. And that’s what love is like. It doesn’t just stop. No matter how hurt or wronged or angry you are—the love’s still there.”

“He is like . . . a shooting star. When he’s around, every other light in the sky just . . . fades out. Because he’s that vibrant—you can’t take your eyes off him. At least I never could.”

“I can’t live without you, Kate. I don’t even know how to try.”

“We kiss. Our mouths move in sync—fierce and bruising, tender and slow. And all the rest, every injury, every harsh word, melts away like snow in the sunlight.”

“This is why I love him. I suspect it’s why you love him too. Because despite his faults and flaws, Drew is bold enough to give me everything he’s got. To put his heart on the chopping block and hand me the ax.”

“If you love someone, really love them, you take them as is. You don’t try to change them.”
