Book Review: IN PURSUIT by Olivia Luck

Genre: New Adult Contemporary
Publication Date: February 11, 2014

SYNOPSIS

Eddie Neff needs space. Not the type that country stars croon about, but physical distance from her emotionally distant father and the tatters of a broken relationship. So when the opportunity to relocate her life and interior design business arises, the answer comes easily.

Adjusting to life with Claire, her gregarious new roommate, is more than simply testing comfort limits. With just one meeting, Eddie finds herself unable to resist the draw of Harris Grant, Claire’s brooding and overprotective older brother.

Harris doesn’t fit her idea of a safe relationship. He pushes Eddie to face her deepest insecurities and fears of abandonment. And Harris holds on to his own painful loss, unable to overcome personal demons.

Eddie and Harris must learn to conquer their internal struggles. But as they navigate their new love, outside forces fight to drive them apart.

REVIEW

3 STARS

In Pursuit was a nice read. I liked the spirit of the story: a girl looking to make a change in her life by being adventurous and moving miles away from her familiar world. But being in a new state and trusting new people is not easy for Eddie but she pushes herself to try and adapt. Unfortunately, it is trusting her new roommate and getting involved with her enigmatic brother that get her into a turmoil she can't seem to understand and/or scape.

This story had some mystery to it that I liked. The characters were not easy to decipher and secrets unfolded slowly keeping the story somewhat interesting. I did like and thought the author did a nice job in describing and making the hero desirable. I was right there sighing with Eddie over Harris and wondering what his secrets were.❤️

However, I wish I have liked the story more but I just didn't connect with the characters and their love story. For me the romance between Eddie and Harris took too long to develop and when it finally happened I wished it was more elaborated because it felt rushed. It was like things between them went from long freezing to hot too quickly that I couldn't see and appreciate their falling for each other. I just love the details and the journey of how characters start to feel for each other and falling in love in a story and that was what I felt was missing here for me. :-/

Regardless, overall I think this story has potential to engage readers more in the sequel, Of Happiness, as Harris has to prove himself to Eddie, truths and secrets have to be revealed, and ultimate choices have to be made. And if the mystery continues and the romance it's elevated, the next book could be more than a great read. :)
