Book Review: AROUSE by Nina Lane

"One day I'm going to touch you in a thousand different ways and show you how to touch me," he said.

And he did.

Struggling with a tormented past, undergraduate Olivia Winter once led a practical but isolated life. Then she met Professor Dean West, a brilliant scholar of medieval history who melted Liv's inhibitions and taught her the meaning of both love and erotic pleasure.

But after three years of a blissful, lusty marriage, Liv and Dean now face a crisis that threatens everything they believe about each other as dark secrets and temptations rise to the surface.

What a unique and exquisite romance!

Since the moment I read the blurb and all the amazing praise Arouse has gotten I wanted to read this series so badly. But knowing it was going to be a trilogy and hating the idea of being left on a cliffhanger, I decided to wait until the series was completed. I'm so happy the wait is finally over as Awaken (third and final book) has been released!!!

The amazing and unique thing in this story is that it's about a married couple. That alone makes it stand out so much because most stories don't focus on marriage, that's actually the ultimate ending in most books. Also, there's something about marriage that feels so sacred that just the idea of separation or divorce is devastating even in a fictional story. Therefore, I felt more engaged with these characters and I couldn't conceive the idea of them not making it through so I was hooked to find out what was going to be their fate.

Olivia and Dean are completely in love with each other. They share a profound emotional and physical connection and a big sense of trust and security. They have built and strengthen their marriage around that stability through out the years of being together. But everything suddenly changes when a shocking secret is revealed and their marriage is threaten with doubts, temptations, disappointments, resentments, and fears. Their world has been turned up side down and the only way to save what they love most deeply is to learn to forgive.

Olivia was such a human character. She struggles to make sense of her doubts and insecurities at the same time fearing a life without her beloved husband. Yet her confusion drives her to make mistakes  and risk her marriage even more. That's when her love for Dean gets tested and she has to learn to look beyond what she thought she knew of him and herself.

Dean's adoration for his wife was captivating. He loves her to death and always wants to protect her from any harm. But he's a very human character just like Olivia and in protecting her so eagerly, he mistakenly drives her away. To rescue his marriage he needs to decide between letting go of his fears or risking losing the love of his life forever.

I loved this couple so much! Their love and passion for each other was out of this world. They could easily set a house on fire whenever they were together... yep, their fire was that intense!

I really liked Olivia. She was sweet, vulnerable, and she fitted perfectly with Dean because he was her hero and the only one with whom she felt whole. Now to the sexy Professor Dean West... I LOVED HIM! He was the most romantic, passionate, and possessive husband ever. The way he talked and seduced his wife was heart-melting. He didn't leave any doubt in my mind of how much he truly loves Olivia regardless of his mistakes.♥

This was an exquisite and realistic love story about two very in love individuals struggling to stay together despite the new adversities that life has thrown on their marriage. I feel like all married ladies should read this book because it's just beautiful and totally relatable.

Yes, definitely a must read and the perfect introduction to Allure (book #2)!! I can't wait to find out what happens next! :D
